Frequently Asked QuestionsHow accurate are the distances? We've used the penalty spot at the location for all the football grounds, although some lucky teams were laying new pitches when Google visited so for those we've had to estimate its position. We then use a cunning bit of code to work out the distance pretty much 'as the crow flies'. For those of a nerdy disposition we use the Haversine Formula.
What about all the old grounds? While some of the old grounds still have remnants of their pitches visible we've left these out to be consistent and have no plans to include them. In some cases the picture of the ground is still one of a work under construction. For example, the new Wembley stadium as featured on the home page was still incomplete when Google Airways flew overhead.
Do I need to stop supporting my favourite Premier League team right now?Don't be daft. We accept that you may prefer to spend your 90 minutes watching silky, fast paced, top class football in a comfy seat with a nice prawn sandwich rather than standing, getting wet and watching another miserable home defeat in the company of a 'meat' pie. Still, it'd be nice if you popped along to the club of your birthplace once in a while or just bought a scarf, mug or replica kit to help keep them going. According to our stats team there are currently 2,498,466 seats waiting to be filled across the leagues of England and Scotland. Make one yours.
My local MP claims to have supported the red side of town all his life. Can I use the site to expose him as a fraud?Absolutely! When election time comes feel free to direct your local newspaper to the site. We love to see MPs and public figures squirm when their flimsy attempts to engage with the public flounder. Can I link to your site? Please do! Just link to http://www.footyroots.co.uk.
How can I quickly share the site with my friends? You can also send the site to your friends on facebook, twitter and various other networks by using the ‘share’ button just below the results section on the main page.
